The Slovenian Basketball Association is due to make the official announcement on the appointment of 47-year-old Zdovc, who is currently the coach of Turkish club Gaziantep, on Wednesday, according to a report by Šport TV.
The former national team player had coached the Slovenian national team already in 2009-2010, leading the team to fourth place at the 2009 EuroBasket in Poland, Slovenia's biggest success at major tournaments to date.
Zdovc launched his coaching career in 2003, after finishing a 20-year playing career that saw him play for clubs in Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, France and Greece.
As a coach, he has had stints at Slovenia's most successful club Olimpija, as well as with clubs in Croatia, Bosnia and Greece.
He is slated to take over from Maljković, who announced after EuroBasket 2013 in Slovenia, at which the home team finished fifth, that he would not extend his three-year contract.
