Mavko will fill the post vacated by Andrej Šircelj, deputy for the opposition Democrats (SDS), who was dismissed in September under a law that prevents MPs from holding two jobs.

Though he is entitled to EUR 6,000 gross per month, Mavko will not be compensated for his work at the BAMC as long as he serves as state secretary, the Government Communication Office said Thursday.

The BAMC board of directors has four non-executive members. Under the law governing BAMC, the Finance Ministry has the power to name three.

The other three members of the board, Arne Berggren, Lars Nyberg and Carl-Johan Lindgren, are Swedish experts with experience in managing non-performing loans.
