Political Incompetence: Govt Still Without Economy Minister

Nekategorizirano

The problem of systemic corruption was one of the main reasons behind the departure of Tomaž Gantar, the former minister who stepped down in November over lack of support to implement a health reform. Yet the coalition remains divided over his appointment, which makes his fate as health minister uncertain.

The list of candidates for economy minister - former Minister Stanko Stepišnik also stepped down in November - meanwhile remains under wraps. PM Alenka Bratušek met with potential candidates last month but no further details have been revealed. Rumours suggest Alenka Avberšek from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) is being wooed for the job.

Efforts also continue on finalising the coalition agreement. By the end of the week, the eleven task groups ironing out details are expected to report back to coalition leaders and negotiations at the level of political parties could begin as early as Friday.
