The woman, aged 39, fell into the river in a village in Mislinja municipality. She was found dead 200 metres downstream caught among tree roots, the Celje police told the STA.

Rivers in the Savinja watershed in northeastern Slovenia and in western Slovenia spilled over on Sunday but are now retreating.

In central Slovenia waterways will continue to swell, in particular the Ljubljanica and the Krka, the Environment Agency said Monday.

The flood damage has not yet been assessed but there are reports of flooded basements, landslides and the closures of local roads.
