After mounting questions about whether the new millionaire might have lost his ticket, EUR 17,890,234.58 was transferred to the account of the first Slovenian Eurojackpot winner on Tuesday.

The winnings were paid out after the 15% tax on gambling was deducted from the EUR 21m jackpot, the Loterija Slovenije told the press.

The tax windfall will go to the Grosuplje municipality, where the winner has permanent residence.

Representing nearly 15% of the municipality's budget, local authorities have already said that the money will be used for an expansion of the town's health care centre.

The jackpot is by far the biggest jackpot in Slovenia, overtaking the previous record-breaking lottery winning by more than EUR 15m.
