Skiing: Victory for Hansdotter, Maze Out

Maze, who has been struggling with disappointing results after last year's breathtaking season, did not finish the second run after coming in 19th in the first one, 2.15 seconds behind Mikaela Shiffrin of the US, who was in the lead after the first run.

However, Shiffrin wasted her advantage in the second run, placing 7th, while Hansdotter secured her first World Cup victory and with it the Golden Fox Trophy. The Austrian Schild sisters, Marlies and Bernadette, joined her on the podium in second and third spots, respectively, 0.05 and 0.15 seconds behind.

Out of the six Slovenian skiers on the start only Maze and Maruša Ferk made it to the finals. Ferk finished the race 26th.

"It just wasn't my day today. I wasn't myself. Skking was hard... Kranjska Gora never suited me and it obviously never will. Maribor was always better," Maze said after the race.

She won the slalom and finished second in the giant slalom in last year's Golden Fox competition in Maribor. The 50th edition of the Golden Fox was moved to Kranjska Gora due to a lack of snow in Maribor, but even there the giant slalom had to be cancelled on Saturday due to freezing rain.

"I wanted the race yesterday, but the weather prevented it. Congratulations to the organizers for succeeding to go through with this race at least," Maze said.

Germany's Maria Höfl-Riesch, who placed 23rd today, remains in the lead in the overall World Cup standings at 1079 points, ahead of Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein (943) and Austria's Anna Fenninger (871). Maze is currently 5th.
