Sochi: Historic Win of Slovenian Hockey Team
After two scoreless periods, Slovenia went on a scoring run early in the third, when Rok Tičar slid the puck into the back of the net after finding himself in front of the goal on a power play in the 44th minute.
Slovenia extended the lead less than five minutes later when captain Tomaž Razingar blew a shot past Slovakian goalie Jaroslav Halak.
The scoring run was capped off by Slovenia's NHL star, Anže Kopitar, who slalomed his way around the face of the Slovakian goal and then fired home from a tight angle in the 50th minute, in what was is one of the best goals at the tournament so far.
A stunned Slovakia managed to score a consolation goal through Milan Jurcina with 18 seconds to go in the match.
Slovenia have secured at least third place in the group with the win. They will play the US on Sunday.
