Dragonja, 59, who will answer questions from members of the Economy Committee, was economy minister between 1997 and 1999.

He also served a 15-year stint as CEO of pharma company Lek, followed in 2005 by stints as Sandoz and NLB representative in Russia.

The 66-year-old Žmavc, appearing before the Committee for Slovenians Abroad, is a senior member of the Pensioners' Party (DeSUS).

This is his first foray into national politics, though he is considered an influential player behind the scenes.

The hearings come a day after Alenka Trop Skaza was cleared by the Health Committee to take over the Health Ministry.

The nominations are part of the biggest reshuffle of the Alenka Bratušek government to date, precipitated by the resignations of the economy and health ministers late last year.
