Unemployment Slightly Up At the End of 2013
Although unemployment remains highest among women, the monthly increase in unemployed men was higher than the increase in unemployed women. The share of unemployed men went from 12.1% to 13%, while the share of women increased by only 0.1pp to 14.2%.
The number of jobs decreased in nearly all industries in December. The biggest drop was however recorded in construction (more than 3,700), while the drop was smaller in manufacturing (1,300).
Broken down by age groups, the statistics show that unemployment increased across the board. However, the biggest increase was again recorded among the 15-24 year-olds (from 32.4% to 33.8%).
By region, the biggest increase was seen in the Pomurje (NE) - from 17.5% to 18.9% - which was also the highest registered unemployment in the country. The lowest registered unemployment was recorded in Gorenjsko (NW) at 10.3%.
The number of people registered with the Employment Service has been increasing in the last months of 2013, reaching 124,015 in December. The number was 4,700 higher than in November and by 5,900 higher than in December 2012. A month later, the number of jobless climbed 4.7% to 129,843.
