Slovenia expects the Ukrainian authorities to restrain from any use of force against the protesters, who are exercising their right to peaceful expression of opinion.

Ukraine should also conduct an investigation into events and adequately sanction those responsible, the Foreign Ministry believes.

Moreover, a constructive debate between the opposition and civil society needs to be established in order to find an acceptable solution which will suit all Ukrainian citizens, the ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.

Slovenia already expressed concern with the violence in Kiev protests on 23 January. It urged Ukrainian authorities to "respect human rights, international commitments and democratic standards" and called on the protesters "to gather peacefully and avoid provocations".
