Foreign Ministry Advises against Non-Essential Travel to Ukraine

The ministry advised Slovenians who are currently in Ukraine to avoid locations that serve a gathering places for the protesters or the security forces.

Slovenians in Ukraine are also advised to follow closely the news and the advice of the authorities.

Anti-government protests in Kiev and a number of other cities across the country have been accompanied with violent clashes between the protesters and the security forces.

The travel warning was issued after an escalation of the violence on Thursday in which at least 25 people were reportedly killed.

Slovenian Foreign Ministry officials met Ukrainian Ambassador Mykola Kirichenko on Wednesday, expressing deep concern about the escalating violence.
