"We hailed the extremely good relations between the two countries and discussed possibilities for boosting economic cooperation, including in light of privatisation in Slovenia," Bratušek told the press after the meeting.

The pair also noted that trade between Slovenia and Luxembourg was too modest and should be boosted. Being invited to visit Luxembourg with an economic delegation, Bratušek pointed to joint presentations on third markets as one of the possible ways of boosting cooperation.

The Slovenian prime minister also told Bettel about the work her government had done in the past year. "Our work is far from done. There are many things left to be done in the next two years," she noted.

Her counterpart congratulated Slovenia on the ambitious measures the government had pushed through, labelling them the most important decisions.

The talks also touched on Ukraine and topics in focus of the upcoming EU summit, including climate change.

This is Bettel's first visit to Slovenia after he took over Luxembourg government from Jean-Claude Jucker in December.

He also met President Borut Pahor, Parliamentary Speaker Janko Veber, and Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković.
