Nostalg(h)ia in Tivoli Park

Immediately when the old exhibition of National Geographic photos in Tivoli Park ended, a new one took its place: Tarkovsky's Nostalghia: The Journey Within. The brand new photo exhibition showcases the work on the film set of Tarkovsky's cinematic masterpiece Nostalghia (1983).

Shot by the British photographer Deborah Beer, the pictures show intense scenes on the film set and the work of the director, the actors and the film team. It is good timing that the exhibit is in Slovenia's "Year of the Cinema" in Ljubljana which marks the 90th anniversary of Kinodvor and the 50th of Slovenska Kinoteka.

Andrei Tarkovsky is considered to be one of the best film directors of all time. He wrote himself into film history with his distinctive and unique style and a poetic approach to the theme of spiritual search.

The film Nostalghia won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury, the prize for best director and the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival. Tarkovsky also shared a special prize called Grand Prix du cinéma de creation with Robert Bresson. Soviet authorities prevented the film from winning the Palme d'Or, a fact that hardened Tarkovsky's resolve to never work in the Soviet Union again.
