The Slovenian foreign minister said he was satisfied above all because the measures adopted so far would not cause harm to the Slovenian economy, as Russia is an important trade and energy partner for Slovenia.

EU foreign ministers threatened to impose sanctions on Russia unless it acts to deescalate the crisis with Ukraine in Crimea peninsula. The bloc is urging Russia to withdraw its armed forces and launch talks with Ukraine immediately.

Possible sanctions include the suspension of visa liberalisation talks, as well as the freezing of bank accounts of Russian officials and bans on their entry to the EU.

EU President Herman Van Rompuy announced today that an emergency EU summit dedicated to the Ukraine crisis would be held in Brussels on Thursday.
