Žito was aiming for a record breaking three million doughnuts this year, which would exceed last year's figure by roughly half a million, the company told the STA on Wednesday and added they would certainly meet their goal in the post-carnival days.

The company attributes this year's record sales in part to baking the doughnuts on the spot in numerous malls around the country, which enabled customers to eat their sweet desserts fresh and hot from the frying pans.

The central Slovenian caterer Trojane, famous for its big doughnuts all around the country, sells big amounts of these Mardi Gras treats all year long. In the last six days alone, they sold some 100,000 doughnuts, which is their usual turnover in the carnival days, the caterer said.

The Don Don company also reported their revenue from doughnuts was better than last year's but have not summed up the exact numbers yet.
