Football: Slovenia Lose Friendly to Algeria

Algeria avenged their 0:1 loss to Slovenia at the World Cup in South Africa four years ago, showing good form in a tune-up match for the upcoming tournament in Brazil.

The hosts took the initiative at the start of the match, seriously threatening the Slovenian goalie in the 15th minute, while Slovenia's first goal opportunity came in the 31st minute, when Kevin Kampl's shot from near the goal was blocked.

What looked to be a scoreless first half ended with a last-minute goal by Soudani, who scored a nice header following a free kick to the delight of 25,000 spectators at Mustapha Tchaker Stadium.

Slovenia's coach Srečko Katanec made four substitutions for the second half, but the new players failed to make a turnaround. Algeria was still a dominant force on the field, allowing Slovenia only a few attempts at the goal.

The second goal for the hosts came in the 56th minute, when Taider scored with a beautiful shot just inside the box, beating his team mate from Inter Milan, Slovenia's goalkeeper Samir Handanović.

Slovenia will play at least two more friendly matches before the qualifiers for the 2016 Euro in France. The team will travel to South America in June to play Uruguay and Argentina.
