Ted Ligety of the US, a five-time winner in Kranjska Gora, will be defending his last year's win at the Vitranc Cup in the giant slalom.

Croatia's Ivica Kostelić won the slalom race last year, but the big favourites on Sunday are Austria's Marcel Hirscher and Mario Matt.

The competition will feature all Olympic medal winners from Sochi in slalom and giant slalom and with the the season nearing its end it could play a key role in the battle for overall World Cup victory between Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal and Hirscher.

The last home winner was Jure Košir, who won the 1999 slalom. This year the biggest hopes are Žan Kranjec in the giant slalom and Mitja Valenčič in the slalom.

However, only 36-year-old Valenčič, who is ending his career, seems to have realistic top 10 chances judging by recent results.

The Slovenian team will mostly use the home event to give a chance to younger skiers, as Slovenia is allowed to send six skiers into both races.

The organisers have told the press that there is enough snow on the piste that the first run on Saturday will start at 9:30 AM and the final run at 12:30 PM.
