The presidents of Slovenia's three EPP members - Janez Janša of the Democrats (SDS), Franc Bogovič of the SLS, and Ljudmila Novak of the NSi attended the congress in Dublin on Friday.

The SDS did not issue a special statement, but Janša described Juncker in a Facebook album caption as "the most experienced European politicians" and that the SDS supported him.

The SLS's Franc Bogovič said Juncker, who was backed by the SLS, was the right way to "the EPP remaining the cornerstone of a firm Europe".

He added that the EPP programme was mirroring the SLS's efforts in Slovenia and that it was going in the right direction of making Europe kind to its people and providing a future for the young.

Ljudmila Novak of the NSi is also happy with Juncker, who served as Luxembourg PM for 18 years and was euro group head from 2005 to 2013, although her party had proposed and endorsed his rival candidate, EPP vice-president Michel Barnier from France.

She also feels the EPP can remain the strongest party in the European Parliament and is the right answer to issues like lack of jobs, especially for the young.
