"His ignorant and irresponsible decision has severely undermined the mission of the national institution which was enjoying the confidence of all citizens in our pillaged, robbed and scammed country," the literary artists, including DPS head Veno Taufer, said on Wednesday.

Štefanec's appointment as president of the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption stirred public outrage after it was revealed that he was a member of the ruling Positive Slovenia (PS) right until the day he was appointed last Thursday.

According to the eleven writers and poets who signed the call for resignation, Pahor's decision to appoint lawyer Štefanec has undermined the credibility of both the president of Slovenia as well as the anti-corruption commission as an institution.

"With the full awareness of Štefanec's political contamination and knowing well that the Corruption Prevention Commission was being pushed into an immoral puddle of systemic corruption, the president approved an order, unacceptable for the citizens, and scandalous and indecent for a head of state. The situation can only be solved with a resignation."

Besides Taufer, the resignation call was also signed by acclaimed authors Aleš Debeljak, Milan Jesih, Marko Kravos, Feri Lainšček, Vinko Möderndorfer, Tone Peršak, Draga Potočnjak, Ivo Svetina, Janja Vidmar and Vlado Žabot.
