SLS leader Franc Bogovič said the unanimous approval was expected after the parties agreed to cooperation in order to improve their chances for 25 May ballot. The NSi's top body approved the deal already on Saturday.

The names of the candidates are not yet known, with Bogovič saying that they would be revealed in late March or early April.

He labelled the joint bid an "important contribution to the development of political culture in Slovenia".

Each party will put four names on the slate with the hope being that it will win at least two seats in the European Parliament.

The NSi has traditionally been strong in the euro elections, emerging as the top party with two seats in 2004 and one seat in 2009. The SLS has so far not won a seat and hopes a joint bid would boost its chances.
