The agency said in a tweet released on its official account that the temperature broke the previous all-time high from March 1977.

Temperatures exceeded a balmy 24 degrees in several towns and cities in Slovenia today, including Celje, Novo mesto, Kočevje, the Cerklje ob Krki airport and the Maribor Edvard Rusjan airport.

Slovenia has faced unseasonably warm weather most of the winter, with the capital Ljubljana recording a 32-day spell from 20 December to 21 January during which temperatures did not dip below freezing.

That broke the record for the longest spell of unseasonably warm weather since records began in 1900.

The average daily temperatures in Slovenia during that time were 5-10 degrees above the long-term average, according to the agency.

Meanwhile, the highest temperature on record in Slovenia was measured last summer, when Slovenia baked in sweltering heat of up to 40 degrees for several days in early August.

The new record was set in Cerklje ob Krki, at 40.8 degrees, on 8 August.
