"With his know-how and experience...he will strengthen the bank's efforts in building a positive organizational culture, managing the risks of banned and harmful actions, and strengthening integrity and compliance," the bank said in a press release on Tuesday.

NLB, Slovenia's largest bank, was recapitalised and nationalised at the end of last year. The press release says the bank is in the midst of detecting possible criminal acts based on a review of the 200 most problematic clients and has filed 11 criminal complaints so far this year.

Praprotnik, a journalist prior to joining the anti-corruption watchdog in September 2010, stepped down along with the entire leadership of the commission in November in protest against the failure of politics to react to the watchdog's warnings.
