PM Again on a "Hunt" for Credible Health Minister

Bešič Loredan, who last year headed a group of doctors advocating a crackdown on corruption in healthcare and the preservation of the public service, has recently expressed his readiness in principle to take over as health minister.

However, before taking any decision, he would want to discuss the matter with Bratušek and get feedback from coalition parties, he told the STA earlier this week.

Bešič Loredan, a doctor currently working in Switzerland, has already been mentioned as a potential ministerial candidate after Trop Skaza's predecessor Tomaž Gantar resigned last November.

While he enjoys the support of coalition parties, the FIDES trade union of doctors and dentists seems to be more reserved.

Its head Konrad Kuštrin has said that Bešič Loredan "should better stay where he is" as he commented on his statement that health reform would be impossible to carry out within a year and a half, that is until the next general election.

The failure to reform healthcare or the coalition's unwillingness to support his efforts were also the reason for which Gantar stepped down.

What is more, Trop Skaza too said even before she took office that reform would be hard to carry out in such a short time.

Trying to break the deadlock in instituting health reform, President Borut Pahor is planning to host a meeting of all parliamentary parties dedicated to this issue.
