Slovenians Celebrating Easter Sunday

Nekategorizirano

Already on Easter Eve, Christians in Slovenia went to their local churches to bless the food they will eat on Easter Sunday.

A typical basket taken to church includes "pirhi", the elaborately decorated hard-boiled eggs, as well as ham, horse radish, the potica cake, and selected local specialities.

Today, religious and many non-religious families will traditionally get together for an early big breakfast and prayer, followed by mass.

In Ljubljana, Auxiliary Bishop Anton Jamnik will conduct a Resurrection procession in the streets around the St Nicholas's Cathedral and then celebrate a mass.

A Resurrection procession and a mass will also be held in Slovenia's second largest city Maribor, conducted by the vicar general of the Maribor Archdiocese Janez Lesnik.

Slovenian bishops highlighted the Easter feeling of hope and trust in faith in their messages to believers ahead of Easter.
