Bonfires to Light up Across the Country to Celebrate Labour Day

The main ceremony to celebrate the day will be traditionally held on the Rožnik hill in Ljubljana on Wednesday evening, when the ZSSS trade union executive secretary Goran Lukič will address the public.

By the Drava river in Maribor, Labour Day festivities will be held including fireworks and free hot meals. ZSSS Secretary General Milan Utroša is expected to address the public.

On Thursday morning, performances including the Slovenian Police Orchestra and Partisan Choir will be held on Rožnik.

Ombudsman Vlasta Nussdorfer will address the 40th Labour Day celebration on Jošt hill of the Gorenjsko region tomorrow morning.

Otherwise, many minor celebrations will be held in towns and villages all over the country.

On Javorovica near the town of Novo mesto, PM Alenka Bratušek is expected to to address the Labour Day ceremony.

In the early hours of Thursday, brass bands around Slovenia including Izola and Ptuj brass orchestras will wake up towns and villages.

On the occasion, the Slovenian Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief urges responsible behaviour around bonfires to avoid unnecessary fires.
