Slovenian Cookbooks Win Gourmand Awards in Beijing
Bogataj's "Potice iz Slovenije" (Potica cakes of Slovenia) explores the history of this traditional rolled cake and features recipes for sweet and salty potica cakes collected from all Slovenian regions.
This is the second cookbook award for Bogataj. He already won an award for his book about the kranjska klobasa sausage in 2012.
Similar to Bogataj, Jezernik dives into the various types of coffee from around the world, focusing especially on coffee in Slovenia as well as on modern day production and consumption. The text is complemented by a selection of 250 photos, drawings and advertisements.
Additionally, Klemen Košir's Fao 37.2.1 was the first runner-up in the fish and seafood category, while the Kranj-based Gorenjski tisk publisher was second best in the culinary publishing category.
The Gourmand cookbooks awards were first given out in 1995 and have been conferred ever since. They were established by Edouard Cointreau, a descendant of the family that makes the famous Cointreau orange liquor.
