Meanwhile, the government is preparing a set of measures to help the workers.

Minister of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Anja Kopač Mrak told a meeting of social partners in Ljubljana on Friday that she believes there are job opportunities in the Pomurje region in food industry, metallurgy and energy sector, as well as agriculture and tourism.

ZSSS trade union confederation head Dušan Semolič however pointed out that the measures might not be enough to help the workers.

But is seems that nearly half of the workers will be able to get back behind their sawing machines in the Murska Sobota-based company for a month and a half.

Aha Mura receiver Stevo Radovanović has said that he would re-hire on Monday around 400 workers to finish the most pressing orders.

The planned orders do however not include those by German luxury brand Hugo Boss, whose menswear line took up a half of Aha Mura's capacities.

Radovanović is still in talks with Hugo Boss, which wants a guarantee that all orders will be delivered in time and that the Serbian subsidiary employing 1,300 workers in the town of Pirot be preserved.

If Radovanović manages to reach an agreement with Hugo Boss, he expects he could hire another 100 people in Murska Sobota. The company is also already collecting orders for work in autumn as it wishes to preserve cooperation with other partners.

Aha Mura is a part of AHA Group, a furniture-through-clothing conglomerate, which reports say owes more than EUR 60m to creditors.
