Trailing by three goals (22-25) from the first leg in Hungary last week, Slovenia powered back to a dominant 32-26 (13-16) win with a furious second half effort in Velenje on Sunday.

After failing to book a place at this year's European Championships, Slovenia will now travel to Qatar for the world's biggest handball tournament running from 17 January to 1 February.

This will be the seventh time that Slovenia will play at the World Handball Championships. Their best outing was in 2013, when they finished fourth in Spain.

Meanwhile, the Slovenian women's team team lost their final group 5 qualifying match for the European Handball Championships to Serbia 25-32 (15-18) in Niš on Sunday and will miss out on the tournament which will take place later this year.
