Geoplin Expects No Disruptions in Gas Supply
The company believes that a temporary halting of supply of Russian gas to EU countries would not impact supply to the Slovenian market.
Geoplin pointed to the variety of supply arrangements, which include a long-term contract signed directly with Russian producers, long-term and short-term contracts with suppliers not dependent on Russian gas, gas available on trading hubs, and storage facilities as an additional source in case of temporary disruptions.
While Russian gas represents around half of all gas purchased by Geoplin, the company said that the diversification secured in recent years raised independence in case of reductions.
Geoplin is following developments in the Ukraine and hopes for a peaceful resolution of the crisis. It believes a temporary halting of supply of Russian gas to EU countries would not impact supply to Slovenia, as the consumption on the Slovenian market is relatively small compared to the total use in the EU.
Still, negative effects could show in case of a longer and full blackout in supply in the winter, which Geoplin however finds unlikely.
The company pointed out that it had also managed to secure undisturbed supply in January 2009 when Russia cut off supply for two weeks.
