Museum Summer Night: Socializing in the museum of your choice

Nekategorizirano

The annual Museum Summer Night will take place this year for the 12th time, is the largest promotional campaign of Slovenian museum institutions. Though Slovenia has many museums and galleries, people are often not aware of the richness of the museums which are located just around their corner. Initiated by the Museum of Graphic Arts and Design over a decade ago, the event is one of the year's cultural highlights.

From 6 pm to midnight, museums and galleries all over Slovenia are accessible without entry fee and please the visitors with a broad programme of activities. Also this year there will be guided tours, creative workshops, discussions, concerts and more. A lot of people have a rather negative attitude towards museums when it comes to spending actual free time in these public institutions. The Museum Summer Night could change that easily since it is putting the focus on entertaining, interesting and creative activities and bringing museums therefore closer to people.

One of the highlights this year will be the opening of a new exhibition in the Museum of Contemporary History about World War I, which strongly affected Slovenian history. For the centenary of the beginning of the war, the exhibition follows the tracks that led into the catastrophe, a catastrophe which Slovenia entered under Austria-Hungary and left as a different state, with different borders. The exhibition shows many original items from the time of World War I, giving an lively insight into the everyday life of our ancestors.
