Velenje Miners on Strike Again

Talks between the trade union, the managements of the mine and Premogovnik owner HSE utility are ongoing.

Miners are also unhappy over the unknown fate of the mine, which is being wound down and unsettled relations within HSE, claiming that dialogue had become impossible within Premogovnik and HSE.

In what is the second strike since March, when more than 800 staged a token strike, miners oppose pay cuts and demand an increase in the price of coal sold to the nearby TEŠ thermal power plant.

They say that the agreement reached with the management in March was not being honoured and that the power plant would have to be shut down unless their demands are met.
