The festival expects a wide variety of music groups, including the popular Croatian-Slovenian cello duo 2Cellos, Finnish hard rockers H.I.M., acclaimed Slovenian DJ Valentino Kanzyani and popular Serbian rockers Bajaga & Instruktori.

"Schengenfest is the biggest Slovenian music festival covering genres from pop to rock and electronic," organiser Bojan Rojko said while pointing out that the popularity of the event can also be attributed to the impressive festival line-up.

In spite of the mellow summer weather, Rojko stays upbeat about good turnout: "The Schengenfest weekend will be the first sunny weekend this summer."

In addition to evening concerts, the festival will also keep the visitors busy during the day by offering workshops and stand up comedy. The organisers will also mount a slackline park as well as a waterline over the river Kolpa, which runs right beside the festival site.

Starting out as a two-day festival with a rather modest line-up, the festival was first held in 2008 featuring several Slovenian music groups including rapper 6 Pack ÄŒukur, pop singers Alya and Magnifico, and rock band I.C.E.

Gradually attracting growing numbers of visitors as well as many international guests like the British rock stars Kaiser Chiefs, the festival has reportedly welcomed over 20,000 people in recent years.

The festival's name was actually inspired by its location, since the camping site by the Kolpa river is situated on the border of the Schengen area with Croatia.

However, the borders will change now that Slovenia's southern neighbour has joined the EU and once it joins the border-free Schengen area, but it is not known whether the organisers are pondering a new name for the festival.
