Ljubljana to Host First Bitcoin Conference in September
he aim of the conference is finding answers to the challenges brought by bitcoin, get an insight in the business opportunities, business models and new technologies related to the bitcoin ecosystem, according to the organisers.
Participants in the conference, taking place on 11 and 12 September, will be acquainted with the bitcoin community, while a part of the programme will also be dedicated to the legal aspect of digital currencies in Slovenia, the EU and the US, company Grecom, one of the organisers, told the press on Thursday.
"Besides its great, centralised position, Slovenia also has an extremely strong and globally-recognised bitcoin communities. This is one of the reasons why we decided to organise a conference in Slovenia, inviting numerous experts from all over the world," Grecom director Gregor Knafelc said.
One of the biggest and most influential bitcoin exchanges in the world - Bitstamp, originates in Slovenia. The London-based bitcoin exchange saw EUR 2.8m in turnover in the last 24 hours.
One of the speakers at the conference will be former Luxembourg government minister and Sorbonne professor Jean-Louis Schiltz, who will present the legal aspects of bitcoin transactions and their regulation in Luxembourg.
The organisers expect to attract participants from various fields, from start-up entrepreneurs and developers to representatives of state bodies, legal experts, investors and members of bitcoin communities from Slovenia, Italy and Croatia.
