The conference proceedings will get under way in the morning with the formal opening ceremony planned for the evening with a keynote address by President Borut Pahor, the honorary patron of the event.

Held every third year, the conference is the biggest decision-making body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), the largest international scouting organisation with over 36 million participants.

The WOSM would like to become a leading educational movement by 2023 to enable young people to contribute to positive change in society as active citizens, vice-chair of the organising committee Nina KuĊĦar says.

The conference will seek to form the organisation's vision as part of a strategic plan in various fields, including youth involvement in decision-making processes, development of leadership and other competences, educational methods and influence on society.

The conference will also elect 12 members of the World Scout Committee, the WOSM executive body, and hear reports on the work done since the last conference in Brazil three years ago.

An accompanying programme of events will feature an international evening, an exhibition of scout photographs in the Tivoli Park promenade and various activities in Zvezda Park.

The conference is organised by the Scout Association of Slovenia (ZTS), one of two scouting organisations in Slovenia, which has around 10,000 members.

The Slovenian Catholic Scout Association brings together around 4,000 members and is part of WAGGGS (World Organisation of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts).

Both international scouting organisations were set up in the early 20th century, one for boys and one for girls. Today they both associate members of both genders.
