Ljubljana Looking for a Million Overnight Stays in 2014
Ljubljana tourism officials are optimistic despite the first two months of the summer season recording a drop in numbers due to poor weather.
According to the Tourist Information Centre, Ljubljana recorded 91,572 overnight stays in June, which is 3% less than in the same month last year. Numbers for July meanwhile remained flat at 130,585 overnight stays.
Based on this year's trends, Turizem Ljubljana expects that Ljubljana will remain attractive to foreign tourists and that overall numbers for the whole year will be positive.
The organisation noted that travel guide publisher Lonely Planet recently placed Ljubljana among the top ten destinations in Europe for this year, describing it as one of Europe's "greenest and most liveable cities".
Should the trend from the first seven months continue, Ljubljana could see a million overnight stays this year for the first time ever, it added.
The biggest number of guests in Ljubljana come from Italy, followed by Germany, Serbia, the UK, Croatia, the US, France, Austria and Russia. Foreign guests stay in Ljubljana for 1.8 days on average.
