Ljubljana - V Cankarjev Dom, Slovenia's biggest arts and culture centre, presented its new season on Tuesday, dubbed Tete-a-Tete, which is also the subtitle of a Henri Cartier-Bresson exhibition opening on 22 September. Cankarjev Dom head Uršula Cetinski said conditions will be tougher, but all key subscription segments and festivals will be preserved.

Cetinski told the press that capacities have been slashed by coronavirus restrictions, with the Gallus Hall for instance being able to admit only 490 instead of 1,500 visitors and the Kosovel Hall 190 instead of nearly 500.

Major events are planned nonetheless, with "serious music" fans being able to for instance look forward to the Montreal Symphonic Orchestra, the Young German Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, as well the baroque music ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro.

The World Music segment will get under way on 23 October with a concert by the Birds on a Wire duo, while the Magnificent 7 section again will feature international dance and theatre projects, starting with the Islands project by dancer and choreographer Carolyn Carlson.

The Ljubljana International Film Festival is scheduled from 11 to 22 November, with programming director Simon Popek explaining the number of feature films is expected to be reduced from 100 to around 55. A Federico Fellini retrospective is planned.

The Henri Cartier-Bresson exhibition will feature 150 black and white portraits selected by Cartier-Bresson himself for a book marking his 90th birthday. In the spring, the CD Gallery will also host the 14th Slovenian Illustration Biennial.

Moreover, Cankarjev Dom will be home to another edition of the Storytelling Festival in October and host the Slovenian Book Fair in November.
