The match could not have started worse for the hosts, as they allowed an early goal (6th minute) to the disappointment of more than 11,000 of home fans, with Jo Inge Berget scoring for Celtic.

Maribor recovered quickly with a nice play eight minutes later. Željko Filipović sent a nice pass to the box to Marcos Tavares, who was fouled, but the referee let the play continue as Damjan Bohar picked the ball and scored for 1:1, which turned to be the final result.

The match-up now moves to Scotland, where Maribor will look to qualify for Europe's top football club competition for the first time in 15 years.

The most successful Slovenian club last qualified for the Champions League in 1999 and many domestic football analysts believe that this year presents the best shot to date to repeat the feat.
