He told the press that his administration carried out 1,500 projects since he was first elected mayor eight years ago.

Janković said that he was very proud of what he has accomplished and promised that he would continue working in the same way if he gets re-elected.

Among his projects in the Slovenian capital, he said that 32% of houses were not connected to the sewer system eight years ago, while the share has shrunk to only 5%.

This will be the fourth local election for Janković. He first won the mayoral battle in 2006 and was reelected in a landslide with 65% in only one round of election in 2010.

He had to give up the mayor office after being elected MP in December 2011 but won the office again three months later in a by-election after having given up his seat in the National Assembly.

Apart from Janković several other candidates have also announced their bids for Ljubljana mayor, including city councillor Miha Jazbinšek, National Party (SNS) head Zmago Jelinčič, Philharmonics director Damjan Damjanovič and Martina Valenčič, an entrepreneur.
