Grocer Mercator fell to 51st from 44th and energy utility HSE slid to 112nd from 85th on the list of the biggest companies in Central Europe by consolidated revenue in 2013.

Mercator's owner, Croatian food group Agrokor, placed the highest in the region of the former Yugoslavia at 27th, but is expected to further consolidate its position next year due to the takeover.

Two Slovenian companies dropped from the list, the indebted holding ACH and power distributor Elektro Energija, head of Deloitte Legal in Slovenia Sanja Savič told reporters in Ljubljana on Wednesday.

She singled out the Novartis-owned generics maker Lek, which climbed 100 spots to 278th owing to boosted sales abroad, and Revoz, Renault's car assembly plant, which slid 120 spots to 346th as a result of a decline in Twingo sales and the failed Wind project.

Savič says the share of Slovenian companies on the list has not changed much in recent years; the number of listed firms has been standing at between 18 and 16, which represents about 3.2% on the list.

Almost third of the CE TOP 500 companies are from Poland, including oil company PKN, which continues to lead the rankings with over EUR 27bn in revenue, ahead of Hungarian counterpart MOL and Czech car maker Škoda.

This year's rankings are marked by stagnation and stability with the listed companies facing falling profits for the third year running; overall revenue was up only 0.2% to EUR 716.1bn, according to Savič.

Deloitte also compiled lists of 50 largest banks and insurance companies in the region with Polish bank PKO BP and insurer PZU continuing at the top of the rankings.

NLB is the only Slovenian bank listed, sliding four spots to 17th after the transfer of bad claims, while insurer Zavarovalnica Triglav gained one spot to 6th among insurance companies.

Three of the listed insurance companies are state-owned, among them two in Slovenia, while NLB is one of the six state-owned banks among the the CE Top 50, Deloitte official Mitja Kumar noted.
