Champions League: The Moment of Truth for Maribor

Nekategorizirano

After 1-1 draws against Sporting Lisbon and Schalke, Maribor hit a wall at Stamford Bridge, where the Blues came out firing and never let the Slovenian club close.

Dominating possession from the opening whistle, Chelsea opened the scoring through Loic Remy in the 13th minute. A Didier Drogba penalty 10 minutes later made it 2-0 and all but sealed Maribor's fate.

Chelsea went into cruise control after that but continued to create numerous opportunities as Maribor could do little but to try to keep the score low.

A Mitja Viler own goal in the 54th made it 4-0 and two goals from Eden Hazard - a penalty in the 64th and a strike from the edge of the box in the 90th - rounded off the scoring.

The Slovenian champions had a chance at 4-0 to take a consolation goal when they were awarded a penalty, but Agim Ibraimi's effort hit the post.

The two clubs will face off again in a fortnight in Maribor.
