The campaign will take place in 17 locations across the country, where a total of 28,000 tree seedlings will be planted to replace the trees damages in the severe ice storm. Around 600 seedlings were already planted two weeks ago.

A similar number of trees is planned to be planted next spring and the campaign is expected to continue in the following years.

The February ice storm affected more than half of total forest area in Slovenia and damaged almost 10 million cubic metres of timber or 25 million trees, which need to be cut down.

"In the revitalisation of forests we will make use of natural processes, but we will also need to help with planting of seedlings. Around 2.5 million seedlings will need to be planted," Damjan Oražem of the Forestry Service explained ahead of the campaign.
