Painter Ciuha Gets Life Work Award for Illustration

Ciuha has found many ways to intertwine words and pictures, according to art historian Marija Skočir. He has illustrated fairy tales, poetry for children and folk tales, as well as riddles.

Moreover, illustrator Hana Stupica received the Hinko Smrekar Award, named after one of the pioneers of Slovenian illustration, for her pictures accompanying a Slovenian edition of "The Mitten", an old Ukrainian folk tale.

The illustrations in Stupica's first picture book reflect her maturity as an artist, the judging panel said. Moreover, the artist depicts the mostly animal characters in the book with "much thought and research".

The award ceremony also honoured three other illustrators with Hinko Smreak plaques and recognitions.
