VW Golf Car of the Year by Thieves' Choice

As its name would suggest, Volkswagen was the most popular car make for thieves with 124 VW cars stolen in the first half of the year, among them 76 Golfs.

After the German, the second most theft-prone make was French Renault, 93 were registered to have been stolen in the first half of the year. Most of these were Megans, Megan Grandtours and Clios.

The owners also reported 78 BMW cars and 42 Audis as stolen, but no Mercedes or Daewoo in the first half of the year.

Police statistics estimate the cost of car theft at EUR 5.2m in that period.
