Blizzard to Hit Slovenia in the Afternoon

Spreading from the west this afternoon, the snowfall will intensify during the night. Rain is expected at the coast.

In the hilly parts of western Slovenia and in the Notranjsko (SW) and Końćevsko (S) regions up to 40 centimetres of snow is expected to fall. In other parts of the country the snow cover will be 15 to 30 centimetres thick. The wind will create drift.

On Sunday afternoon, a northerly wind will reach the speed of 70 km/h in the north of the country.

The traffic information centre is also warning of the danger of black ice due to low temperatures.

The snow storm is expected to abate on Monday but it will stay windy and very cold with occasional snowfall until New Year, according to meteorologists.

There is a danger of avalanches in the mountains.
