New Year's Celebrations Packed Despite Freezing Weather
Around 200,000 are estimated to have visited the capital in the past 24 hours, while things also got crowded in Celje where some 12,000 celebrated New Year's outdoors.
Six squares in Ljubljana provided entertainment on Wednesday night. The central party took place in Kongresni trg, while the remaining venues catered to different tastes.
Celje however secured the biggest party this year with the choice of the mega popular oompah band Modrijani, which attracted 12,000 people, twice as many as usual.
Maribor, which like many other cities had to do without a fireworks again, also had a crow of almost 10,000 people,
2,000 gathered in the coastal town of Koper, which was able to afford a fireworks but was prevented from having it by strong bora wind.
Public New Year's celebrations were also organised in other bigger Slovenian towns, including Kranj, Ptuj, Slovenj Gradec, Velenje, Novo mesto, Nova Gorica, Izola and Piran.
