Apart from meeting his counterpart Karl Erjavec, Deputy PM Meredov will also meet President Borut Pahor, PM Miro Cerar and Speaker of the National Assembly Milan Brglez.

Meetings between the Turkmenistan minister and the Slovenian officials will focus on bilateral cooperation and topical international issues, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry said as it announced the visit.

The visit is also seen as preparations for a planned visit by Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.

Slovenian President Pahor paid an official visit to this Central Asian country in July 2014, while Foreign Minister Erjavec was there a year ago.

During Pahor's visit in Ashkhabad, business opportunities in telecommunications, technology, pharmaceuticals, transport and tourism topped the agenda.

Pahor was accompanied by a delegation of business executives and Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) officials as well as the economy minister.

Bilateral trade is currently modest, although it has been growing steadily. In 2013 it reached just EUR 12m, but that was in increase of 43% on the year before.

An opportunity to explore the potential to upgrade economic cooperation will be today's session of the intergovernmental commission.
