Slovenia Demads New EU Structural Deficit Calculation Methodology

Nekategorizirano

Speaking after the meeting of the Eurogroup, Marmor underscored the relevance of the discussion on the methodology of calculation of the decrease in structural deficit in a given year when a general government deficit is below 3%.

This methodology is wrong as the result it produces - that Slovenia's potential growth this year is zero percent, with a relatively high unemployment rate, zero rate of inflation and more than 5% surplus in the current account of the balance of payments is simply wrong, Marmor said.

Similar views were aired by other countries, so the European Commission was tasked with examining the methodology in detail. The Commission's response that it will likely change the methodology in the coming years is inauspicious, so Slovenia will aspire for changes as soon as possible, the minister said.
