Slovenia's best female basketball player will join the 2011 and 2013 WNBA champions in the spring, and is expected to play her first game on 5 June, when the Lynx will kick off their 17th season in the WNBA.

The 22-year-old Trbovlje native, who was selected by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2012 WNBA draft, currently plays for WBC Spartak in the Russian league, averaging 11.2 points, 3.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 13 games.

Executive vice president Roger Griffith said that the team is "excited to welcome Nika to the Minnesota Lynx organization," adding that she is a great shooter who is expected to bolster the team's backcourt, according to the Minnesota Lynx website.

The 170cm tall point guard represented Slovenia in the 2010 FIBA U18 European Championship where she was named the MVP of the tournament after leading Slovenia to its first-ever U18 Women's European Final Four.
