The conference, running until Sunday, will focus on "the collapse of the international order" in view of the crisis in Ukraine and the deteriorating relations between Russia and Europe, according to the organisers.

On Saturday, Pahor will chair a panel entitled "Through Ukraine - Unresolved Conflicts in Europe" as the first Slovenian representative at the Munich Security Conference to get this honour, according to his office.

The panel will also feature Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, and a senior representative from Russia.

The debaters will discuss frozen conflicts in Europe and security issues in areas with independence tendencies - from Transnistria to the separatist republics Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as Nagorno-Karabakh, which is claimed both by Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The Munich Security Conference will also be a great opportunity for Pahor to hold bilateral meetings. He is expected to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel, US Vice President Joseph Biden, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Russian FM Lavrov.

According to the president's office, Pahor is also scheduled to meet NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg, Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarife.
