Pahor and Zarif examined possibilities for bolstering bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on current international developments and security challenges, including the situation in Syria and Iraq, his office said in a statement.

The Iranian foreign minister briefed the Slovenian president with progress in international negotiations on Iran's nuclear programme. Pahor stressed the importance of finding a long-term solution which would lift UN sanctions on Iran and open the door to stronger ties between Slovenia and Iran.

The Pahor-Zarif meeting took place at the end of the three-day annual high-level security conference in Bavaria's capital, which this year focused on the crisis in Ukraine.

Pahor was among a host of global leaders in attendance. On Saturday he chaired the panel "Through Ukraine - Unresolved Conflicts in Europe" featuring Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksander Vučić and Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusić.

Ukraine also featured prominently in Pahor's bilateral meetings at the conference, including with Estonian counterpart Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
